There are many different types of pregnancy tests, but which one is the best? That depends on what you mean by “better”. There are different factors that differentiate different types of pregnancy tests, but for most women, the best pregnancy test is the one with the lowest threshold for detecting the hCG pregnancy hormone. The more sensitive a pregnancy test is to hCG, the sooner you will be able to detect a pregnancy.

How far in advance can a positive pregnancy test be obtained?

It depends on three variables:

  1. When the implantation takes place

Pregnancy tests detect the presence of the hormone hCG, which is produced by the embryo after implantation. The implantation can take place between 6 and 12 days after ovulation/conception, but most of the time it occurs between 8 and 10 days after ovulation 1. Once the implantation is complete, the hCG levels will double approximately every 48 hours. So, part of the answer to when you can get a  positive pregnancy test depends on when the implantation takes place.

  1. Your hCG reference levels

The other part of the answer depends on the reference hCG levels. Even when you are not pregnant, you have a very small amount of hCG in your body, up to 5 min/ml. If you have a reference level of hCG higher than that of a friend, and you are both pregnant and had the same-day implantation, you may be able to get a positive pregnancy test before her, because the time of duplication of hCG depends on your body’s hCG reference levels, so you have a bit of an advantage!

  1. Your hCG duplication time

The final variable is the doubling time of hCG. While hCG levels double, on average, every 48 hours, this figure can vary from woman to woman. If the hCG doubling time is slower, it will take a little longer until you have enough hCG in your body to get a positive pregnancy test.

Based on these three variables, you will see that it is very unlikely to get a positive pregnancy test before 9-10 days after ovulation, and most women will probably not be positive until 11 or 12 days after ovulation. (Read more about  when to get a pregnancy test .)

What kind of test should you use?

If you are doing the test on the first day after a fault in your period, it does not matter much what test you use: most of those that are currently on the market are legit and will yield a positive result for 98 percent of the tests. pregnant women. But if you take the test before your period ends, you must use a more sensitive test. Keep in mind that we do not necessarily recommend doing the tests in advance, but if you are going to do it beforehand, you should use a sensitive pregnancy test. The more sensitive your pregnancy test is to hCG, the sooner you can get a positive result.

Most pregnancy test brands have an hCG detection threshold range of 6.3 to 50 mIU / ml, and most tests act between 20 and 35 mIU / ml. However, what the manufacturers of the tests claim is not verified independently. When independent studies have been carried out, the results often differ considerably from what the manufacturers of the tests 2 claims.

What other factors should you look for in a pregnancy test?

Easy to use

The manufacturers of pregnancy tests are different because some are easier to use than others. The tests of half of the current must be carried out directly in the urine stream, while the tests with dipstick require urinating in a container, and then submerge the test a few seconds. Many women prefer test strip tests because they are less complicated, but it is a matter of preference for each one.

Price

If you are the type of woman who prefers to wait until your period is delayed several days and you are already experiencing early signs of pregnancy, such as breast pain or increased olfactory sensitivity, the price is probably not the most important factor for you at the time to decide on a pregnancy test.

But if you are going to have many pregnancy tests during the two weeks of waiting, the logical thing to do is to look for cheap bulk pregnancy tests, usually bought online (try brands like Wondfo or Easy at Home).

Clarity of  the  results

After the waiting time has elapsed, you will see if the test is positive or negative in the results window. Positive tests have one more, two lines or an explicit message like “yes” or “pregnant.”  Some women prefer tests that say “yes” or “pregnant” because there is no doubt in interpreting the results.

Other women prefer two-line tests because the second line is directly related to the concentration of hCG in the urine (hCG is the hormone that produces an embryo after implantation). The darker the second line, the greater the concentration of hCG. It can be reassuring to see the line darken for several days as hCG levels increase early in pregnancy.
